Coated Chef's Knife Use and Care:
CLEANING
- First, wipe down the protective storage cover with a damp cloth. Make sure it’s completely dry.
- Before your first use, be sure to thoroughly hand wash the knife. When you are finished with your cutting or slicing task, wash, rinse and dry it with a towel.
- Always hand wash your knife and its cover immediately after use. Remember, they are not dishwasher-safe.
USE AND CARE
- Remove the knife from the protective cover by gripping the handle in one hand and simultaneously grasping both sides, near the holes, with the other. Carefully remove the cover by pulling it away from your body (see illustration #1).
- As you hold the knife, wrap your working hand’s finger around the handle, while placing your index finger and thumb on opposite sides of the handle (see illustration #2).
- As you work with your knife, always hold it in the working hand. The tip of your thumb should rest on the sides of the handle. Use your opposite hand as the guiding hand, placing the knife’s blade in front of it.
- To return the knife to its protective storage cover, grip the sides of the cover with one hand, while holding the knife handle in the other, making sure the sharp cutting edge is turned away from your body. Cautiously feed the knife back into the cover until the fit is secure (see illustration #1).
SAFEGUARDS
- Do not move your index finger over the blade.
- Do not use for prying, or separating or cutting semi-frozen or frozen foods.
- Always grasp the food with your fingertips curled back or use a finger guard.
TIPS
- When pulling the knife out of its storage cover, place your thumb either on the side tab or the notches on top to help you effortlessly glide the cover from the knife.
